May I know if your pda can access your office pc on the road? If so, mobilepos can synchronize with your office pc directly on the road.

If pda cannot access your office pc, may I know how will you handle the email? Do you want the mobilepos server able to retreive these email automatically?

Do you mean you want to send in a format which can be imported by Quickbook? Very interesting suggestions! I will investigate and let you know the progress.

Thanks.

I have investigated this issue. It is possible but there are also some potential problems.

First of all, the iif format can be used to meet our requirements.

One problem is exporting linked transactions. For example, if you create an invoice and receive a payment for this invoice. The current implementation will upload the invoice to quickbook first and get back the invoice transaction id generated by quickbook. Next, it will fill this invoice transaction id in the receive payment and upload this payment to quickbook because quickbook needs this id to link these two transactions together.

But if we export them to a file, there is no way to forsee the transaction id for the invoice and hence the receive payment transaction cannot be uploaded correctly.

Unless we set some restrictions on the export function such as export only un-linked transactions.

Another problem is that after exporting these transaction to a file and import this file to quickbook. You need to do an extra synchronization to get back the full information of these new transactions such as the transaction id of an invoice. Then you can work on it on PDA such as do a receive payment for this invoice. Current synchrnozation actually does not require you need to do this. Because the invoice is uploaded to mobilepos server from pda and mobilepos server uploads the transaction to quickbook and send back the completed transaction information afterwards. The mobilepos pda updates its local database immediately.

Maybe we need to think what do you want actually? Do you want the ability of importing transactions to Quickbook directly or just donot want the current connection setup between Mobilepos server and pda?

If you do not want the current setup or think the connection setup is too complex or difficult for maintainence, we can actually work further to provide other transportations such as email or via our doitech server. Some usage scenarios of using email transportation may be as follows:

Scenario A:
1 mobilepos pda sends all transactions to a specific email account
2 mobilepos server polls for new messages for this specific account, and upload them to quickbook if available.
3 mobilepos server sends a new email containing the response from Quickbook.
4 mobilepos pda checks for the response email and updates local database

Scenario B:
1 mobilepos pda exports all transactions to a file
2 This file is sent to desktop via some way such as email or synchronization etc.
3 Import this file to mobilepos server.
4 Mobilepos server uploads the transactions and generates another response file.
5 Send the response file to pda via email or whatever.
6 Import this response file to mobilpos pda and it updates local database accordingly.

We are actually thinking of a 3rd way of achieve this and get rid of the complex network setup. We can create an account for customers on our doitech server based on subscription.
Customer can synchronize transactions to/from our doitech server. A usage scenario is as follows:
1 uploads transactions to doitech server from pda
2 mobilepos server on desktop acting as a client to doitech server, polls for pending transactions. If available, retreives from doitech server, uploads to quickbook and sends back response to doitech server
3 mobilepos pda retreives response from doitech server and updates local database.

How do you think of these potential problems and suggestions?
Please let me know if you have any comments.

Thanks.

Wow!!! You have it very detail. Some of the questions I don't even think about it . But you are right, there is lots of thing. For my situation, I am writing the sales order and creating the new customer on the road, no invoices and payment will be involved. All the detail of the customers information will be input once get back to the office. The reason I want that because worry about lost information, because each of the trip usually is a week long.

i would like the same feature but even more simple. All i need to do is create an invoice on the road and send it via email to my customer. i can always sync up when i get back to the office.

Now what will my customer see... what format will it be delivered pdf html or word? Will my custom invoice in QB PRO 2007 be converted in Mobile PRO software or can it be customized to fit my company.

I will be using a cingular 8125 or a HTC 8525 with unlimited internet with gprs edge and wifi if available with WM5.0
